MGM,WMG - Two new short candidiates
Both Warner Music group and MGM Resorts have putrid balance sheets and poor prospects.
2010 should mark the 6th losing year of the past 8 for WMG and they had a negative net worth starting out the year. The music business is struggling due to downloading and not looking like it will ever turn around.
MGM is solidly in the red and their businesses are all weak. They have $780 MM in debt due this year and another $1.5 billion maturing in 2011 with no easy path for refinancing.
Their huge City Center project in LV has failed to excite or draw the numbers needed to come close to breaking even.
MGM could be on the path to chapter 11. Short this pig.

MGM has an Altman Z"-score in the distress zone. I'll see if we can add WMG to the database, but I suspect its Z"-score will be in the distress zone as well.
WMG is in the database now and its Altman Z"-Score is even worse than MGM's: -1.7
